The Washington Huskies delivered a statement win with a 42-21 victory over the California Golden Bears in a key Pac-12 matchup. Washington’s high-octane offense was on full display, led by quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns. Penix Jr. spread the ball effectively, with wide receiver Rome Odunze leading the way with 130 yards and two touchdowns.

The Huskies’ defense also played a significant role, forcing three turnovers and limiting California’s offense to just 300 total yards. Washington’s defensive line, anchored by Tuli Letuligasenoa, controlled the line of scrimmage, pressuring California quarterback Sam Jackson V throughout the game.

California struggled to keep up with Washington’s pace, with Jackson V completing 22 of 38 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Golden Bears’ ground game was stifled, managing only 80 yards on 25 carries. Despite a valiant effort, California’s defense couldn’t contain Washington’s explosive playmakers, allowing big plays that swung the game in the Huskies’ favor.

Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer praised his team’s execution, stating, “We came out with a plan to attack, and our guys delivered. We played complementary football, and it showed in the result.”

For California, the loss is a reminder of the challenges in the competitive Pac-12, but head coach Justin Wilcox remains optimistic. “We faced a tough opponent, but we have to learn from this and improve. There’s still a lot of football left to be played.”
